Fraser Coast

The Fraser Coast is a relatively short stretch of coastal Queensland that offers some truly unique natural wonders. Although many of the towns are unremarkable, there are some pleasant places to spend a couple of days while you are off exploring.

First and foremost on everyone’s agenda is the spectacular World Heritage-listed Fraser Island. At 120km from top to toe, it is the world’s largest sand island. With endless beaches, headlands, rainforests and picture perfect freshwater lakes, it is a great place to escape. However with the increasing amounts of tour companies hawking “Fraser” like a cheap meal, during peak times it can get crowded with day-trippers.

Hervey Bay is the usual jumping off point to Fraser Island, but Rainbow Beach is gaining in popularity these days and Rainbow Beach’s coloured sand cliffs are world famous.
