Torquay

Torquay is Australia’s surfing capital and it marks the beginning of the Great Ocean

Road. Bells Beach, Jan Juc, Point Danger, Point Impossible and Torquay Surf Beach are the

main surf beaches.


Each year at Easter, Bells Beach hosts an international surfing championship.

Coming & going

V/line (tel 13 22 32) buses go to Geelong, Melbourne and to Warrnambool along the Great Ocean Road. Buses stop at the corner of Grossmans Road and the Surf Coast Highway.

Sights & activities

Surfing

Although Torquay’s beaches are popular with more experienced surfers, it is also possible

to learn to surf here. Go Ride a Wave (tel 1300 132 441) offer three two-hour lessons for $150. Westcoast Surf School (tel (03) 5261 2241) charge $50 for a two-hour lesson.

Surfworld

Surfworld is a brilliant museum about surfing and beach culture that delves into

everything from physics to surf history.
