The re-constructed facade of the building that formerly served as the Palace Hotel, and later as the Palace Backpackers Hostel, houses an art gallery and memorial to the 15 backpackers who lost their lives to the tragic hostel fire of 23 June 2000.

Childers’ tourist information centre is also located in the building.

    A memorial to the backpackers who died in the fire in 2000. Very eerie place, but beautiful to see. Also incorporates an art gallery.
