Bicheno Penguin Tours
Bicheno Penguin Tours is a unique experience where you are taken in a small group to see little penguins waddle in from the sea at dusk. It’s highly recommended as it is a much more intimate experience than penguin viewing centres in Victoria or New Zealand and the number of penguins is relatively high, particularly between July and November.

Billabong Sanctuary
This wildlife sanctuary is about 20 minutes south of town and features a selection of native animals including kangaroos, wombats and snakes.
Birdworld
This large aviary is home to Australia’s largest collection of free flying birds representing almost 80 species.

Byron Bay has excellent beginners waves and it’s a popular spot to learn to surf. One-day lessons with Black Dog Surfing start at $60 for one-day (1 x 3.5 hour) course, $105 for a two-day (2 x 3.5 hour) course and $150 for a three-day (3 x 3.5 hour) course.
Black Wattle Bark Mill & Museum
Australia’s only bark crusher was once used to make leather tan from black wattle bark. The adjoining museum details the town’s history.
