Sydney Airport (SYD)

You are here Home  > New South Wales  > Sydney >  Sydney Airport (SYD)

Sydney Airport is about 8km south of the city centre and is easily accessible by train from Central Station. The airport is split into domestic and international terminals that are several kilometres apart. The international terminal is all contained in one building, while the domestic terminal is comprised of separate buildings that are used for Jetstar, Qantas, Rex and Virgin Australia flights.

The easiest way to the airport is the new Airport train line that whisks you to the airport in around ten minutes. Trains leave from Central Station and less frequently from other stations on the City Circle line. The one-way fare from the Domestic Terminal to Central Station or Kings Cross is $16.40; one-way fares from the International Terminal are $17.20 to Kings Cross or any station in the city centre.

The train fare between the two terminals costs $5.40, but there are also free buses linking the domestic and international terminals.

입국시. Optus 오스트레일리아 전화번호를 얻을 수 있는 심카드 구입을 권함. 식당 주문시 전화번호가 필요한 경우가 많음. 라운지는 50번 게이트 근처에 위치함.

They were terribly confused over where people should go. We were directed to a long line we did not have to be in. Employees are helpful, but don’t seem to understand the basics of their own place.

If you’re dropping off a rental car at the international airport DON’T pay for a trolley at Departures. Trolleys are FREE at car rental drop-off! 💰

If you have an early flight find a close airport hotel. They tend to be about $10 aud for a shuttle and you have less stress when navigating through Sydney AM traffic.

Watch out for your carry-on bag weight (Virgin Aus at least)! 7kg or you have to check it for 🤑

Opal cards no longer needed for public transport if you have a bank card with Paywave (or Google/apple wallet). I suspect this would be for Australian bank accounts only.

The most seamless check in, immigration and security check i have experienced. Everything is automated and works flawless. Lots of option to shop and eat on the terminal

Tips for you with connecting flight thr AUS: Check your layover time. If its more than 8 hours You have to apply subclass 771 transit visa online. Its free. Apply at least a week before departure.

Not recommend this airport for more than 8 hr layover. Busy but boring.

More shopping after entering immigration, but if you’re hungry, you should eat before entering immigration. More choices than inside 😋

As far as big city airports go, Sydney Airport is a good one. It gets crowded at peak times but it’s close to the CBD. Biggest beef is the outrageous cost of parking - price gouging by the operator.

Very disappointed in the variety of restaurants. Passport and security check is one the fastest in the world.

Eat before you arrive. The selection of restaurants is dismal for such a large airport. Celebrity chef restaurants or McDonalds
