Innisfail

Innisfail is a large town on the banks of the Johnstone River. It is a great place to work in the sugar cane and banana industries for a month or so, and the hostels here are set up for travellers on a working holiday. Travellers may also want to stop here for the area’s good white water rafting and fishing. The town centre is a busy little cosmopolitan cluster of shops and cheap restaurants. There is a sizeable Chinese and Italian community here, so there are some good places to eat. It has some interesting architecture as well, with Art Deco façades lining a few of the central streets. Otherwise, it does not offer much in the way of attractions, so if you are not planning on working in the area, you probably won’t want to spend too much time here.
