Murramarang National Park National Park & Pebbly Beach

For many travellers, Pebbly Beach (in Murramarang National Park) is the highlight of the New South Wales South Coast.

Located less than 30 minutes north of Batemans Bay, Pebbly Beach consists of a sheltered cove with a beautiful sandy beach that is frequented by abundant wildlife including scores of kangaroos. This is better than any wildlife park as you get to see animals in their natural habitat rather than in an enclosure.

There are some good hiking trails that depart from Pebbly Beach, including one to Durras Mountain (4 hours return), Depot Beach (30 minutes) and the Discovery Trail (45 minutes). Entry to the park is $7 per car.

Coming & going

There is no public transport to Pebbly Beach although the YHA in Batemans Bay runs daytrips that allow for five hours in the park. The return trip costs $15.

Accommodation

Most backpackers visit on a day trip from Batemans Bay or Ulladulla, but you can camp at Pebbly Beach. Camping costs $10 per person, in addition to the vehicle entry fee. It is a good idea to book ahead on (02) 4478 6023 if you plan on staying here during peak periods.
