Wollongong is New South Wales’ third largest city. It is located less than two hours south of Sydney and has a busy port, coal and steel industries. The city also has a few attractions worth visiting that include centrally located surf beaches and the Nan Tien Buddhist Temple, which is the largest in the Southern hemisphere. The city makes a good base for exploring the surrounding Illawarra region.

Local transport

The CityRail network serves the metropolitan area including Port Kembla. Buses supplement the suburban rail system although the central area is compact enough to get around on foot.
