This museum contains artefacts relating to Captain James Cook including the original anchor and one of the cannons from the Endeavour. It also has exhibits on Cooktown’s local history.
James Squire Brewhouse
Like many Australian cities, Melbourne has plenty of places to drink but many of these feel plastic and charmless. However there are a few nice pubs around the city including the James Squire Brewhouse on Russell Street in the city centre.
Jet boating on the Huon River
The Huon Jet boat operates jet boat rides from the Esplanade in Huonville, taking take you for a 35-minute spin on the Huon River.
Jetty Dive Centre
Coffs Harbour is a popular place to learn to dive. Diving here is considerably cheaper than in Queensland and the nearby Solitary Islands Marine Park is a top diving spot. A two-day PADI dive course costs $349 and a 3–4 day PADI Open Water dive course costs $395–495.
Jim Jim Falls
The spectacular Jim Jim Falls stop flowing in the dry season, which unfortunately is the only time when the falls are accessible by road (4WD only). Kakadu Air operate scenic flights in the wet season, which cost $195 and this is the only was to see the falls in their full glory. Flights depart from the Cooinda and Jabiru East airstrips.
Jolimont Transit Centre
There are direct coaches to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and country destinations in New South Wales including the ski resorts in the Snowy Mountains.
Greyhound Australia coaches go to Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
Murrays Coaches run express coach services from Canberra to Sydney; Woollongong; Batemans Bay and Narooma on the South Coast plus Cooma and Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains.
Coaches terminate at the Jolimont Transit Centre at 65–57 Northbourne Avenue.
Justice & Police Museum
Formerly a police station and courtroom, the Justice & Police Museum has an interesting series of exhibits on crime, law and policing in New South Wales. Visitors have the opportunity to see mug shots of early criminals, weapons and forensic evidence as well as seeing the inside of a police charge room and a remand cell.
Kalbarri National Park
Kalbarri National Park features 80km of gorges and there are some very good hiking trails ranging from the easy Z Bend hike (500m) that goes to a rock lookout with views to the Murchison River. Longer walks include the Coastal Trail (8km, 3–5 hours) that takes in coastal views from the cliff tops between Eagle Gorge and Natural Bridge.
Visitors should be very cautious while hiking in the gorge areas and park rangers recommend that you undertake the longer walks in groups of at least five.

Transwa coaches travel between Kalgoorlie and Esperance and stop outside the train station on Forrest Street.
Kalgoorlie Train Station
Kalgoorlie is well served by rail. The Indian Pacific is one of Australia’s greatest rail journeys running between Perth and Sydney with a stop in Kalgoorlie. Transwa’s daily Prospector service to Perth is a cheaper alternative.
Kalgoorlie’s train station is on Forrest Street opposite the intersection with Wilson Street.
