Australia’s newest parliament house is an imposing modern building at the southern end of Mitchell Street. Guided tours are conducted on Saturdays.
Nourlangie rock art site
A short (1.5km) walk takes you past the exceptional Nourlangie rock art site and there is also a short climb to the Gunwarddehwardde lookout with views of the surrounding area. Rangers give talks about Aboriginal art and culture here three times a day during the dry season.

Nowra Wildlife Park
The south coast’s largest wildlife park, on the banks of the Shoalhaven River north of Nowra, features a variety of Australian wildlife including koalas, kangaroos, wallabies and wombats.
Ocean Beach Hotel
Perth has some brilliant beachside pubs that are great places to spend a Sunday session. One of the best is the Ocean Beach Hotel next to Ocean Beach Backpackers. It is right opposite the beach and you can sometimes see whales from the bar.
Old Dubbo Gaol
This old prison is now a museum that features animatronic mannequins.
Old Melbourne Gaol
Built in 1841, this prison has a history of 104 hangings including that of the infamous Ned Kelly in 1880. Displays include Kelly’s armour, his guns and his death mask.
Old Newcastle Gaol
This old prison has a collection of old handcuffs, guns and photographs and exhibits on the outlaws who where once locked up here.
Old Treasury Building
The former state treasury building has been converted into a museum focusing on the story of gold and its role in the development of Victoria.
OneSteel Whyalla Steelworks
OneSteel Whyalla Steelworks is the city’s largest employer and visitors can take tours of the steel-making plant. This is Australia’s longest-running steelworks tour. Tours depart from the tourist information centre next to the Maritime Museum on Lincoln Highway.

Middle Eastern joints are widespread in Byron Bay, with some seriously good falafel. Orgasmic Café makes great balls – with love – and kebabs.
Otway Fly
The Otway Fly is the longest and highest tree top canopy walk of its kind. The 25m-high
boardwalk lets you walk 600m through the treetops. There is also a 47m-high lookout tower with sweeping views.
Outback at Isa and visitor information centre
This tourist complex is comprised of the Isa Experience Gallery and the Hard Times Mine tour.
The Isa Experience Gallery is a small museum depicting the town’s history and culture. The Hard Times Mine is a unique experience as it offers the opportunity to tour a mine, although it is rather expensive.
Mount Isa’s tourist information centre is located near the entrance to the Outback at Isa complex.
Overlander Roadhouse (Shark Bay coach stop)
Integrity Coach Lines coaches stop at the Overlander Roadhouse, on the North West Coastal Highway near the intersection with the road to Denham and Shark Bay. Overland Roadhouse is 129km from Denham and 154km from Monkey Mia.
Palace Memorial Building & tourist information centre
The re-constructed facade of the building that formerly served as the Palace Hotel, and later as the Palace Backpackers Hostel, houses an art gallery and memorial to the 15 backpackers who lost their lives to the tragic hostel fire of 23 June 2000.
Childers’ tourist information centre is also located in the building.
