Paradise Country
This is basically an oversized – and overpriced – petting zoo. You can cuddle a koala and feed kangaroos and watch sheep shearing demonstrations.
Cape Tribulation Environment Centre (the Bat House)
This interpretive centre is run by the Australian Tropical Research Foundation and has informative displays about the rainforest environment.
Daintree Discovery Centre
The Daintree Discovery Centre has displays about the rainforest and an audio-visual theatre but the main feature is the network of elevated boardwalks, aerial walkway and the 23m-high canopy tower.
Sea World
Home to Australia’s only polar bear enclosure, Polar Bear Shores, Sea World offers a range of shows and rides. The interactive marine programme offers visitors a chance to get up close to the park’s popular residents, including going behind the scenes with Sea World’s marine mammal trainers to meet the dolphins and sea lions, snorkelling and swimming with dolphins and, for the more adventurous, diving with sharks.
James Cook Museum
This museum contains artefacts relating to Captain James Cook including the original anchor and one of the cannons from the Endeavour. It also has exhibits on Cooktown’s local history.
