The closest train station to Port Macquarie is in Wauchope. A connecting bus service meets NSW TrainLink trains from Sydney.

Ballina Byron Gateway Airport serves Ballina and Byron Bay. Jetstar, Rex and Virgin Australia have flights to Sydney and Jetstar also have direct flights to Melbourne.
Byron Bay is on the Sydney–Brisbane train line with two daily trains in each direction. The train station is on Jonson Street in the centre of town.
Lismore used to be served by trains on the Casino–Murwillumbah rail line, however the line was closed in 2004 and Lismore train station is now just a coach station served by NSW TrainLink coaches that stop here en route between Casino and Tweed Heads.

Some Brisbane-Sydney buses bypass Lismore so check first if you want to get off here. Most buses, including Kirklands and Greyhound Australia, stop at the Transit Centre at the corner of Magellen and Molesworth Streets.
Tamworth has pretty good transport connections including buses to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and towns in New England and the New South Wales north coast. Buses stop at the bus terminal near the corner of Murray and Peel streets.

Although it is no longer possible to travel to Mudgee by train, NSW TrainLink coaches run between Mudgee and Lithgow with connecting train services to Sydney.
