Murwillumbah

Murwillumbah is a charming town on the banks of the Tweed River about 30km from Byron Bay. Its location is perfect for exploring nearby Mount Warning and the subtropical rainforests of Nightcap National Park. There are many historic buildings along Main Street and elsewhere in the commercial centre. Cafés and hotels are concentrated here as well. Shady parks and gardens are dotted throughout the town, many offering superb views of the surrounding hills and Mt Warning. The Tweed River National Gallery is renowned for its collection and exhibitions, and the region’s famous markets also make a stop here on the forth Sunday of each month.

Murwillumbah is the commercial hub for the region and its many small villages. Many dairy and beef farms and fruit orchards in its environs depend on the town for business purposes. Besides the scenery, there are not many other attractions in Murwillumbah, but it is a nice place to stop for a coffee on one of the small cafes on Main or Brisbane Streets. If you are heading into the rainforests or hinterland for outdoor activities, the hostel in town is the perfect place to stay.
