Apollo Surf & Kayak run two hour sea kayaking tours to the seal colony at the Manengo Marine Sanctuary. Tours cost $65.
Sea Kayaking (Dunk Island)
Sea kayaking excursions operated by Coral Sea Kayaking is by far the most fun way to get to Dunk Island. The $136 trip involves paddling out to the island and includes lunch and snorkelling gear.
Sea kayaking (Fitzroy Island)
Raging Thunder runs daytrips to Fitzroy Island, which include the ferry trip over and sea kayaking to the more remote parts of the island.
Sea kayaking in the Solitary Islands Marine Park
Liquid Assets run good value sea kayaking trips to the Solitary Islands Marine Park that give you the opportunity to see dolphins, turtles and whales. Half-day trips cost $50.
Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium
Melbourne’s impressive new aquarium is home to a variety of marine life and features transparent tunnels allowing you to be surrounded by fish in the 2.2 million-litre oceanarium.
Sea Life Sydney Aquarium
Sea Life Sydney Aquarium is an excellent aquarium that shows underwater life in different ecosystems from mangrove swamps to rivers and the Great Barrier Reef and features glass tunnels where you are surrounded by water.
Sea World
Home to Australia’s only polar bear enclosure, Polar Bear Shores, Sea World offers a range of shows and rides. The interactive marine programme offers visitors a chance to get up close to the park’s popular residents, including going behind the scenes with Sea World’s marine mammal trainers to meet the dolphins and sea lions, snorkelling and swimming with dolphins and, for the more adventurous, diving with sharks.
Seabreeze Hang Gliding
Seabreeze Hang Gliding runs tandem hang gliding flights from Cape Byron or Lennox Head. A tandem flight costs $145 for a 30-minute flight or $200 for a 45-minute flight.
SeaLink Breakwater ferry terminal
SeaLink is the more popular of the two ferry companies that link Townsville with Magnetic Island. The return fare from Townsville to Magnetic Island costs $32 with SeaLink.
SeaLink ferries depart from the Breakwater terminal on Sir Leslie Thiess Drive in Townsville and go to Nelly Bay Harbour on Magnetic Island. SeaLink has the fastest boats but they’re restricted to passengers only.
Settlers Tavern
Margaret River is a popular destination for foodies, but most of the town’s eating establishments are rather expensive. Of the more affordable options, a popular choice is the Settlers Tavern, which is Margaret River’s local pub.
Shark Bay World Heritage Discovery Centre

Adventure Bay Charters and Calypso Star Charters both run shark diving trips from Port Lincoln. The full-day tours take you to Neptune Island (around 70km south of Port Lincoln) where you have the opportunity to view Great White Sharks from the safety of either a submerged glass Aqua Sub (with Adventure Bay Charters) or a shark cage (with both companies) while wearing scuba diving gear.
Shear Outback the Australian Shearers Hall of Fame

Shrine of Remembrance
If you look south down the middle of Swanston Street, you’ll be looking directly at the Shrine of Remembrance, which was built as a memorial for those who died in the First World War and now stands as a memorial for all the wars in which Australia has played a part. There’s a great view of the city from the top.
Shrubbery Taverna
Shrubbery Taverna is on the top of many lists, though the views come with a hefty price tag. If your budget won’t cover a meal here, a beer with a view is a good alternative.
Shute Harbour Ferry Terminal
The ferry terminal at Shute Harbour (around 10km from Airlie Beach) used to be the main departure points for ferries and sailing trips although most trips now depart from either Abell Point Marina or the Port of Airlie Maritime Terminal, however the occasional sailing trip may depart from Shute Harbour.
